Artist's Description
Title: Hand of God
Media: watercolor and acrylic on Arches watercolor
Size of original: 7 x 15 inches
This text was used by King Edward of England in his1939 Christmas broadcast to his people as WW II was spreading across Europe.
The poem: 1908 by Minnie Louise Haskins [1875-1957], American lecturer at the London School of Economics. . Apparently she was astonished to hear her poem read by the King; she gave royalties earned from the poem to charity. After the Kings death, the Queen Mother had bronze plaques engraved for the entrance to the King George VI Memorial Chapel, Windsor.
The message: The future is uncertain, but trust in God who promises to hold and guide, help us live the present in hope.
Isaiah 41:10 - I am your God, I will strengthen, help and uphold you with my victorious right hand. Hebrews 11:8 - By faith, Abraham trusted God ... he went out not knowing where he was going.
About Judy Dodds
My fascination with the power of ‘thoughts made visible’ and the mystery of the word as a vehicle of communication has led me on a wonderful journey as I merge message and technique with watercolor, brush and pen into a finished piece. Each piece brings exploration, inspiration and discovery — on a concrete level as I work with my tools and experience; on a spiritual level as a passionate heart treasures God. My response to life’s journey is to work with words, be inspired by great texts, express the abstract more tangibly and ... listen ... for God's still, small, gentle voice within the cacophony of the ups and downs, joys and sorrows experienced. In this relationship God comes transforming, with hope-full and wonderful surprises!
